Disney Branded Television is adapting A Crown of Wishes, the second book in Roshani Chokshi’s The Star-Touched Queen duology, into a young adult series on Disney+.

According to Deadline, the actor Avantika (Senior Year, Spin) will be taking on the role of Princess Gauri, a young woman who becomes a prisoner of war after enemies lay siege against her brother, the malevolent King of Bharata. While Gauri is in exile, she ultimately teams up with Prince Vikram, royalty from a rival land, and the two enter the Tournament of Wishes with hopes of winning the final prize: one wish from the Lord of Wealth. Vikram and Gauri have different agendas at first, but through the course of the book fall into an unexpected romance as well. The story is inspired by Hindu mythology and was well-received when it came out in 2017.

Avantika, who most recently starred with Rebel Wilson in Senior Year, will also executive produce along with Zanne Devine (Easy A, I Tonya, Spin, The Grizzlies) of Montana North Media and Raj Raghavan of ColorCreative.

The project is still in its early days, so no news yet on other stars or who will be directing or writing the adaptation. Let’s hope that the Disney+ version of the Tournament of Wishes, however, still includes the poisonous courtesans, mischievous story birds, a feast of fears, and twisted fairy revels that are featured in the books.
